Reach Initiative

Dear Pastor, I would like to share with you an exciting thing that we are continuing this year in conjunction with camp. As many of you already know, accomplishing goals is as much about removing obstacles as it is about creating opportunities. One of my goals as DYD is to remove as many obstacles that prevent our students from participating in essential events as possible. A bigger win for me is to do both at the same time! One looming obstacle that has surfaced during my tenure is the inability of some of our students to attend summer camp. Camp is absolutely one of the MOST essential things that a student can be a part of.

Do you remember in 2 Chronicles Chapter 20 when the Moabites and Ammonites were coming to attack Judah and Jehosaphat prayed for God to intervene? In response to Jehosaphat's petition, the Spirit came upon Jahaziel and he prophesied. Verse 17 gives us an incredible account of God's response:

17‘You need not fight in this battle; position yourselves, stand and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem..."

If God was going to fight the battle for them, why did they need to position themselves? Because sometimes God wants you in the right place at the right time for Him to do incredible things! That is what Camp is to our students and why it is absolutely ESSENTIAL- Camp IS the Right place at the Right time and I want to help position our students for everything that God has for them. One reason that we have pinpointed as to why students cannot attend camp is that they do not have a Youth Pastor or adult leader that can take a week off of work and accompany them. This has prohibited some of our churches from sending students to camp. In an effort to Remove an Obstacle AND Provide an Opportunity at the same time, we are launching what we call: the Reach Initiative.

The Reach Initiative is where we take our Leadership|Residency participants and partner them with students or groups that are attending without their adult leader. Those campers will have their own leader that is dedicated to them and their experience at camp. As you recall, we launched the LR back in 2012 with huge success. We initially launched with 6 college age individuals, challenging them to give 1 month of their lives to develop leadership skills within a ministry mindset.

In addition, the Reach Initiative will provide one full Youth Camp scholarship to any church that has not attended youth camp in the past 2 years. Why are we doing this? Because, as a parent, I want my children to be in the place where the Spirit is moving. Hundreds of testimonies of how God is doing the miraculous come out of our camps each summer. .. and we want your students to be there. I want to turn these obstacles into opportunities because problems can sometimes be the genesis of what turns out to be an incredible God moment. Make sure that you send your students to camp!
